All of our horses are barefoot. If necessary,
we put shoes on them for showing and then remove them after the show. This keeps their hooves healthy and natural.
The picture on the left shows Nevado's hoof at age 25. It is our belief that a horse is only as good as it's feet.
We do not believe it is appropriate to ride on concrete or hard surfaces. It has been proven by experts that this causes
laminitis by the concusion of the hoof hitting the hard surface. Of course, fino boards are fine as long as they are
not overused.
Proper hoof management & health is one of the most important aspects of owning a horse and yet it is
one of the biggest challenges for horseowners. A healthy,
properly trimmed hoof with sound structure equates to optimum horse performance, exceptional balance, less vet bills and a
very happy horse! Poor hoof health contributes to or causes other
overall health problems.
